A Simple Plan:
Things That Make Teeth to Discolor
Stained teeth can be embarrassing especially when you are in public. Teeth whitening products offer short term solutions that take longer for you to realize the changes but teeth whitening service of the dentist offer immediate long term results. The following things are what make teeth to discolor.
Carelessness with your dental hygiene can cause the teeth to stain. When you rarely floss, brush or rinse your mouth with an antiseptic mouthwash, plaque buildup on the teeth. You should also brush your teeth after every meal because you may have consumed food that causes teeth to discolor. Accumulation of plaque and debris on the enamel of the teeth cause yellow, white, black, brown, tan or green discolorations. Those areas that are hard for the toothbrush to reach such as the gum line will be the most affected. You need teeth whitening to be performed by a dentist for such types of stains before the teeth that are near the affected teeth are also stained.
Some of the foods and products that you eat cause teeth to stain. Coffee, tea, red wine, cola or tobacco products are chromogenic agents that cause the teeth to turn yellow gradually the more you expose your teeth to them. In worse cases the teeth will turn burnt orange or brown. Other foods that cause teeth staining are cranberries, blueberries, cherries, soy sauce and more. Your teeth need teeth whitening, a reduction in the consumption of chromogenic products and brushing the teeth after every meal.
Teeth are also stained by medications that have tetracycline and fluoride. These medicines are mostly for children who are developing teeth and pregnant women. The level of exposure to these medicines, the portion of the teeth that were developing at the time the child was exposed to the medication and the duration the child was exposed to them determines the pattern of the stains. Aside from tetracycline drugs, minocycline and doxycycline medications also stain the teeth. Tetracycline and related antibiotics cause yellow stains on the teeth while fluoride cause lusterless blemishes or chalky white streaks or patches on the teeth. It is recommended that kids who are under eight years and pregnant women should not be prescribed with tetracycline and related antibiotics to protect the kids from tooth discoloration.
Teeth can darken when you grow older. The foods and products that you have been consuming may be another reason the teeth are turning darker over the years. The dentist can help to restore the bright white smile on your face through teeth whitening.
Some people have lighter, and others have darker teeth because of their genetic makeup. It is normal to have blue-grey or yellow-brown teeth due to their genes. Teeth whitening can reverse the discolored teeth because of genetics into shiny white.
